Charles J. Palus
Chuck began his career as a chemical engineer with the DuPont Company, and specialized in polymer systems. His contributions were in the areas of optical fibers and reverse osmosis water purification. His responsibility for manufacturing quality assurance kindled his interest in individual and organizational development as the basis for well-rounded performance and led to a career transition. Chuck subsequently earned a doctorate for his research in adult development and taught in the business school and psychology department of Boston College. He has also served as a program designer and instructor with the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in the areas of professional development, leadership, team building, and adolescent development.
Chuck is lead researcher and co-designer of Leading Creatively, a five-day experiential program for developing creative leadership, and Facing and Solving Complex Challenges, a custom program for developing connected leadership. His publications include Making Common Sense: Leadership as Meaning-making in a Community of Practice and The Leader's Edge: Six Creative Competencies for Exploring Complex Challenges, both co-authored with fellow Center staff members. He is also co-developer of the leadership tool Visual Explorer: Picturing Approaches to Complex Challenges.
Chuck received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Boston College.
