CCL Announces Cemala Foundation Grant

The Cemala Foundation3 November 2011 - Greensboro, NC - The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL®), a top-ranked, global provider of leadership education and research, has received a $15,000 grant from the Cemala Foundation to train leaders of nonprofit groups in Guilford County, North Carolina. CCL will match the grant with in-kind tuition reductions.

The grant supports the Greensboro Leadership Fund, which was established by CCL and the Greensboro-based Weaver Foundation in the fall of 2000 to provide low-cost training and development opportunities for nonprofit executives in the Greensboro area. An initial $40,000 grant from the Weaver Foundation launched the initiative at that time. "The Cemala Foundation continues to support the Greensboro Leadership Fund because its Board members are committed to wise and honorable people of integrity being nurtured as community leaders," said Susan Schwartz, Executive Director of Cemala.

"The Greensboro Leadership Fund has enabled us to work with a wide range of nonprofit leaders whose agencies touch the lives of thousands of local residents each day," said John Ryan, president of the Center for Creative Leadership. "This additional grant from the Cemala Foundation will allow us to continue that work, which we believe will benefit not only the individuals we serve but also the larger community."

To date, the Greensboro Leadership Fund has provided scholarships for more than 60 local nonprofit executives from organizations such as the United Arts Council, the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and the Guilford County Department of Public Health. Participants are selected from nominations submitted by local nonprofit boards and agencies.

In addition to the Weaver and Cemala Foundations, the Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro have also provided support for the Greensboro Leadership Fund since inception in 2000.

One executive who has taken part in the scholarship program is Susan Feit, executive director of the National Conference for Community & Justice (NCCJ) of the Piedmont Triad, a nonprofit agency that fights bias, bigotry and racism in America.

"What a wonderful and enriching experience it was being exposed to current state-of-the-art research in a safe environment while learning how I can move my organization forward," said Feit, after attending CCL's Leadership Development Program (LDP©). "It was a chance for introspection and reflection into my assets and deficiencies. The program gave me a different lens through which to analyze what I should be doing and what I should change."
